Salene Agnew, a homeless young lady toting all of her belongings in an unsightly trailer pulled by her old car, discovers that the friend from whom she had anticipated help, is no longer in residence. The only person in residence is her friend's husband; a man with whom Salene has had an antagonistic relationship. The angst starts in the beginning of the book, with Gabriel Breslin both pleased to find Saline in a desperate position, and looking forward to rubbing her circumstances in her face. The characters are interesting, the dialogue is fair to good, and the overall story is entertaining. The problem is that the author's grammar is very bad. The main errors include incorrect tenses, quite a few run-on sentences (which would have been automatic “F” grades during my high school days), and multiple occurrences of incorrect word usage resulting in nonsensical sentences. Of note is that the author uses double spacing between every paragraph and between every spoken sentence. This results in lengthening of the book, thus the page count might not reflect the reader's expectation of the story's length. The story itself has one strange scene near the end. Given that Salene had recently decided how creepy it was that Derek Cipriani kept appearing near her, why would she have asked him to come into her hotel room and stay while she does a pregnancy test? This is a glaring absurdity that makes you wonder what on earth the author was thinking. Still, the story is cute, and deserving of a rating of approximately 4 stars, although I reduced that rating to 3 stars due to grammatical errors. Despite her substantial errors, this author has demonstrated the ability to create a story line and then maintain the angst while bringing her story to a reasonable conclusion. This provides some indication of her potential for success in the future. Despite her grammatical errors and the strange structure of some of her sentences, I would give this author another chance, although for those subsequent works, with hopes of her having had obtained the help of a good editor.

I was asked to read and review Desperate and give it an honest review.  For the most part, I loved the story.  I loved how Salena and Gabriel started off hating each other because of a manipulative 3rd party.   I would have liked a little more details of what went into their mutual hatred of each other, but the story worked with what we were given.  

The romance that builds between these two takes a long time and honestly I wasn’t sure if it would ever come.  Salena didn’t come across to me to have much confidence or inner strength at times; then she would act like a feminist snob at others.  It was hard to pin her character down.  It wasn’t that I disliked her, she was just very contrary.  

Gabriel is the typical alpha male that I love reading about.  He sometimes took his alpha to a level of scary and possessive that personally, I wouldn’t be comfortable with, but hey that’s just me.  

Desperate A Contemporary Love/Hate Romance was a blast to read, I was even brought to tears a few times, which is rare for me.  It is was something different, the characters don’t fall in love instantly, there isn’t a billionaire, and for the first part of the book, they hate each other.  It sounds crazy, but it’s a great read, and I am giving it 4.5 Boundless Stars.   
Initially I dislike Gabriel, the hero. His behavior towards Salene, during approximately the first 1/4 of the story, was hard to take. He was bitter and he cruelly used her as a whipping post. Because she was desperate, she let him. However, then he gradually started treat her better, realizing that he was using her as an outlet for his anger. He also stopped fighting himself about being attracted to her and went caveman to get her. I love when heroes act possessive, protective and jealous, being willing to go after what they want. Gabriel willed himself to go slow pursue Salene but once he felt threatened because OM was paying attention to her, that went out the window. The sex scenes that resulted from Gabriel stepping up his game were hot.

Gabriel and Salene were faithful to each other. There were no sex scenes with OP which was nice. Also it is a KU read.

Why not a 5 star review? The story could use further editing. The biggest thing I noticed is that words were missing in a few sentences, changing the context of the sentences. While they were minor mistakes, they were noticeable to me and I do not consider myself very observant.
Also the ending was unsatisfying to me in that a secondary character's bad behavior was not addressed. I wanted a confrontation between the heroine, hero and the secondary character and it never happened.
Great story.
This is a new author for me and she is great, loved this story of two people at first can't stand each other but Salene was desperate for a place to stay and calls her friend Amber from college who had got married but had not talk to her in months, well she never called her back so she goes to where she had lived with her husband but to her surprise Amber had left her husband Gabriel. Salene and him did not like each other but in desperate Gabriel let her stay but she had to put up with him and I mean he was a ass at first but was hurting. They get to know one another and find things that stop them from liking other to be not true, loved Gabriel dog, finding out Amber was no friend to Salene was eye opening as well and they find each other falling in love and boy was Gabriel possess of Salene and when they are together is hot, loved this story. Would recommend this book to all romances readers!💗
