Burning Elana K Arnold Books
I guess I'll start off by mentioning all the factors I liked in Burning, first one being our leading lady. Lala is an awesome character and someone every teenage girl strives to be. She's confident, self assured and straight forward. She's one of those characters that stays with you after you've finished the book. I also liked the chemistry between Lala and Ben and how their personalities complimented each other. I do have to say though, I was pissed about the ending at first. I didn't like the way Elana wrapped things up which is why I'm glad I waited to write a review. It took me a little bit of thinking to realize that this isn't a book about two people falling in love. It's about two people finding themselves.Things that surprised me. Nowadays when we think of "gypsies" we think of Coachella and hippies and the whole bohemian style that's becoming so popular. Honestly, that's what I was expecting. Instead, I got the complete opposite. This book was heavily based on the Roma culture which was incredibly interesting. I liked this aspect of the book and learning more about the gypsy culture.
Why I rated this book 4 out of 5 stars. After consideration, I found that I loved the ending. I love how it wasn't a typical story about teens falling in love. Lala has to be one of my favorite female characters now and I see why Ben falls in love with her. The reason why I didn't give it 5 out of 5 is because their "love" for each other happened very quickly. They had such strong feelings when they had barely even had a real conversation. Honestly, this book is one of those you need a mature attitude to fully appreciate. If you're looking for a breezy summer romance, this wouldn't be my first recommendation but it is worth reading.

Burning Elana K Arnold Books Reviews
this story is told by the two protagonists. One is a recent high school graduate named Ben and the other is a Gypsy girl named Lala. Even though their worlds and views are as different than night and day, they are about at similar cross roads in life.
Ben has been given a a scholarship to attend UCSD. Even though this is dream come true instead of being excited for the new adventure that he will soon be facing, he is torn in two. Yes he will be attending a great university, but everyone around him who he loves. is facing different circumstances. They live in a city with a population of less than 500. The sole occupation for many of these families was a Mine that recently closed and layed off all of there employees. With the town now bankrupt everyone must move, including this family and his best friends.
Lala on the other hand, is the perfect Gypsy daughter. She lives and breathes by her cultures traditions and values. She is a good daughter, a good sister, and will soon be a good wife to a boy her father picked for her in an arranged marriage to her sister's husband's brother. Things however as not as they seem internally for Lala. She struggles with some of the her family's customs and with her 18th birthday around the corner and her wedding to Romeo she finds herself questioning some of her family's customs.
Both of their worlds will collide when Ben's friends take him to get his fortune told at Lala's families camp. The second they both lock eyes on each other there are sparks. Will Ben give up his scholarship to be with Lala? Will Lala risk being disowned from her family for a chance to be with Ben? You have to read the book to find out!
Guys! I adored this book! The characters were so fresh and vivid and just flew from the page. This story was so refreshing and I really enjoyed learning more about the Gypsy world! I loved Lala's struggle between what she wanted and what her family wanted for her. Their individual stories and their story together was just amazing!
And that ending!!!!
So many emotions rolled up into one! I am not sure if there will be a follow up but I sure DO hope so! This is definitely another great summer read!
I loved it until the end. It seemed pointless, almost disappointing. I was angry and I even sobbed as I described the ending to my father. You're a brilliant writer, Elana K. Arnold, but I can't help but be disappointed with this read.
Well written. Well researched. A great, and easy read. I especially love that it was written from two perspectives. I HIGHLY recommend.
GREAT PRICE, FAST SHIPPING. THANKS..
Burning is a story told from the alternating first-person points of view of two young people, each at a crossroads in their lives. When those crossroads intersect one summer, their lives are forever changed.
Is Ben a perfect character? Is Lala? No. And thank goodness for that...personally, I'm more interested in the stories of flawed, faceted people than the promise of a Happily Ever After, or a story sanitized into absolute political correctness.
Burning is a story that will make you hope, yearn, and THINK. It's both a spellbinding summer page-turner and an important commentary on freedom, fate, and self-determination. Highly recommended!
